This is a great little experiment in remix culture, Covered is all about taking classic and obscure comic book covers and reinterpreting them in each artists unique style. What’s interesting is how diverse these interpretations are, from homages to totaly recreations of style, context and attitude. I’ going to be watching this one with interest, and has a similar love of their format as Film The Blanks does (one of my first ever posts and going from strength to strength) See some choice cuts (Including the re-imagined Venom cover) after the jump. On the better never than late blog, I followed a link to a huge thread based on the evolution of the Manhattan skyline from the 20’s to the 70’s, through photographs and postcards and illustrations. There are some truly amazing views to behold and sides of the city I have never seen. (The ones of the World Trade Center under construction are very poignant and you would imagine.) I discovered this great graphic design blog today via twitter. It says in the ‘about us’ blurb that Grain Edit is focussed on graphic design from the 1950’s to the 1970’s and modern design that shows a healthy appreciation of this time period. As this is also my favourite period of design, it’s a pretty easy win. There are lots of good interviews and well-informed opinion, and makes a healthy change from the myriad of creative listing sites. Go check it out – it’ll put a smile on your face!
