— THE SOCIETY OF THE SPECTACLE

BERNIE FUCHS.

Bernie Fuchs 2

Well Mad Men season 3 is in full swing, and the buzz (as i mentioned in a post last month) has never been greater. So it’s good news that the ratings have spiked for the show and the shows fan’s continue to help fill in the gaps of the Mad Men world, but also fill in some of the contextual gaps. This development in particular is of interest. The Footnotes of Mad Men is a resource for information and insights related to what situations (and jobs) the crew at Sterling Cooper are working on. It’s a cracking project, which led me to the work of the incredible Bernie Fuchs, noted as the Illustrator that gave the 1950’s and 60’s ads a look and attitude all of their own. They are richly detailed, dramatic and undeniably lifestyle, and seem almost like a lost illustration style, which seems a shame and makes the existence of this cracking blog all the more important.

Here’s a couple more from Bernie Fuchs, the full Flickr set here
