I avoided the sunshine yesterday (long story) and decided to see ‘In The Loop’ instead. The feature length offshoot of Armando Ianucci’s BBC4 show ‘The thick of it’. The film has been given rave reviews across the board for it’s eerily accurate representation of spin and political horsetrading, the scapegoats, the bullies and the backstabbers who populate the middle tiers of power in Washington and London. I would add my own (albeit small) voice to the plaudits. I don’t think I have laughed so much in a film in ages, the comedy is a mixture of farce and withering viscous put-downs that are highly imaginative and razor sharp. Malcolm Tucker (Peter Capaldi) is amazing as the Director of Communications Malcolm Tucker, I’ve really got to try and remember some his lines for future use, whereas James Gandolfini shines as the ‘Dove’ Pentagon General. While the rest of the cast (including a memorable cameo from Steve Coogan) are spot on. So wherever you are from London to NYC to LA and beyond, go see!
